Technical Guide: BMW Electric Water Pump Air Bleeding Procedure

KeyWord:BMW, Electric water pump, installation, guide

After replacing the electric water pump, it’s crucial to check for leaks and clear any fault codes. Then, proceed with the air bleeding process for the cooling system using the following steps:

1. Ignition On: Turn the ignition on without pressing the TS/START/STOP button.

2. AC Control Settings: Set the AC control to warm mode, adjust the temperature to maximum, and set the fan speed to the lowest setting. Ensure you follow these steps precisely, as failure to do so will result in unsuccessful air bleeding and temperature warnings.

3. Throttle Pedal Operation: Fully depress the throttle pedal (note: do not start the engine). You should hear the water pump activate after approximately 10 seconds, indicating the start of the air bleeding process.

4. Bleeding Process: The air bleeding will continue automatically for about 12 minutes, after which the water pump will stop running, signaling the completion of the process. Monitor the coolant level, and if necessary, adjust to keep it between the max and min markers to prevent overheating.

5. Post-Bleeding Check: Inspect the cooling system for leaks, ensure the battery is adequately charged, and maintain the coolant level below the fill cap opening to avoid spillage. After the process, recheck for any DME system fault codes or road test the vehicle to confirm proper coolant circulation.

By following these steps, you can ensure the successful operation of the electronic water pump and avoid potential issues.
